Wm. J. Mills & Co. has always been and remains a family business.
The two Mills brothers, Wm. J. III (Jamie) and Robert L. II (Bob), are President and Vice President, respectively. Their wives (Maureen and Carol) also fill senior administrative positions--as family and other responsibilities permit. The senior family member, Wm. J. (Bill) Mills II, now 80 years old, still comes to work every day. His experience and wisdom, when questions and problems arise, remain invaluable. In addition, junior members of the family, though still in school, have started to put in their time--on weekends and during summer vacations.

But the immediate family is only the core of Wm. J. Mills& Co. Long-time professionals include members of our office, manufacturing, and installation staff. For example, Chris, one of our most proficient stitchers, has been with the company for 23 years. Gil, a cutter and designer of one-of-a-kind custom goods, boasts 35 years with Mills and remembers both Jamie and Bob as grade-schoolers. And Atanas, who operates our computerized cutting table, recently celebrated his 10th anniversary.

Ours is a self-contained facility of some 15,000 square feet--plus yard space for the assembly of larger structures. The plant and offices were built to our specifications, and we moved here, at the western edge of Greenport, in 1986. As with most manufacturing operations, raw materials (canvas, acrylic, and vinyl-coated fabrics, aluminum and stainless steel pipe, fittings, etc.) are delivered to us, and we ship and deliver fully finished goods: residential and commercial awnings of every shape and size, sails and covers and other parts for boats, bags and cushions, umbrellas, and more.

Our customers come to us for quality in the goods we produce and in the service we provide. Production quality depends upon both our professional staff and our state-of-the-art equipment, including new, computerized stitching machines, the largest computerized cutting table on Long Island, the largest loft on Eastern Long Island, a fully equipped machine shop (with custom-designed fabricating equipment) and more. Cumulatively, our manufacturing staff has over two centuries of line experience!

To assure prompt, professional response to our clients' needs, we maintain more than 5,000 patterns in inventory--most of them digitized. These include awnings of every shape and size as well as boat covers, sails, and the like. Chances are we have the pattern for any outdoor fabric shelter or covering you are likely to see on Eastern Long Island.

Installation of our canvas and other fabric products also is handled by a full-time, professional staff. We man a fleet of six trucks, all of which are on the road daily during the height of the season. We'll install your awning or boat canvas or other cover quickly and efficiently--at your site or ours. And when our crew leaves your premises, the only thing they've left behind is the awning, cover, pavilion, or other item you ordered--in place and ready for your pleasure.

We take pride in our family, our staff, our plant, our products, our service, and our clients. As our founder used to say:

Canvas makes it better, and Mills makes it best.  Since 1880--serving you today!
