What's the second-most important name on your Boston Whaler®?
Even if you didn't notice our label on your Whaler® canvas, you had to notice its exceptional craftsmanship and durability. For more than 35 years, Whaler® owners have come to expect outstanding quality from Wm. J. Mills & Co., the premier manufacturer of canvas products for all models of Boston Whaler® boats.
The relationship between Wm. J. Mills & Co. and Boston Whaler® began as a personal friendship between Wm. J. (Bill) Mills II and Dick Fisher, an inventor who founded The Boston Whaler Company. Dick, famous as a perfectionist, needed a canvas company as dedicated to quality as he was. On that basis, a partnership was born. Until Boston Whaler was sold in 1997, Wm. J. Mills & Co. was the sole supplier of canvas accessories for all Whaler® models.
| Dick Fisher was probably the first to name his models after specific places familiar to boaters. Sakonnet, Currituck, Katima, Montauk: These and other names light up the eyes of sailors and boaters everywhere--but especially in the Northeast. Wm. J. Mills & Co. got involved in model naming when Bill Mills, visiting Whaler's plant in 1971, took one look at Dick Fisher's new 21-footer. "That's outrageous!" he exclaimed. Ever since, this boat has been known as the "Outrage." |

Over the years, Wm. J. Mills & Co. has designed specialized procedures and hardware for installing its Whaler® canvas parts, including struts, straps, hinges, and clips. Some of our fabricating equipment was developed specifically for building Whaler® canvas accessories.
